Privacy Policy
Last updated: 4 September 2026
This Policy explains how Rentaly collects and uses personal information when you browse listings, create an account, publish accommodation, request a viewing, or contact another user. It is intended to support the protections in South Africa’s Protection of Personal Information Act, 2013 (POPIA).
1. Information we collect
We may collect your name, email address, phone number, account role, profile picture, biography, social links, verification status, and authentication details.
When you use the marketplace, we process listings, property information, uploaded media, favourites, viewing requests, messages, reports, notifications, and moderation records. We also receive ordinary technical information such as IP address, browser details, access times, and security logs.
2. How we use information
We use information to provide accounts and listings, match search filters, deliver viewing requests and status updates, reveal publisher contact information when permitted, prevent fraud, moderate reports, secure the service, communicate important updates, and comply with legal obligations.
3. Google sign-in
If you choose Google sign-in, Google provides an account identifier, verified email address, name, and profile image. Rentaly uses these details to create or link your account. We do not receive your Google password.
4. What other users can see
Published listings and publisher names, roles, biographies, and profile pictures may be public. Publisher contact details and social links are revealed to signed-in users only when the publisher has enabled the relevant privacy setting.
A viewing request shares the tenant’s request details with the relevant publisher. An accepted request may expose the contact information needed for the parties to arrange the viewing.
5. Sharing
We share information with service providers that support hosting, storage, email, security, and authentication; with users involved in a viewing or listing; and with authorities where required by law or necessary to protect rights and safety. We do not sell personal information.
6. Storage, transfers, and retention
Information may be processed by service providers inside or outside South Africa. Where information crosses borders, we take reasonable steps to use appropriate safeguards.
We keep information only for as long as reasonably needed for the purpose collected, account administration, safety, disputes, backups, and legal obligations. Retention periods differ by record type.
7. Security
We use access controls, password hashing, protected media routes, rate limits, and monitoring intended to reduce unauthorised access. No internet service can guarantee absolute security, so you should use a unique password and protect your devices.
8. Cookies and local storage
Rentaly uses necessary browser storage for authentication, redirect handling, and interface preferences. Google may use its own cookies during sign-in under Google’s privacy terms.
9. Your choices and rights
Depending on the circumstances, you may ask to access, correct, or delete personal information; object to or restrict certain processing; withdraw consent; or complain to South Africa’s Information Regulator. Some information may need to be retained where law or legitimate safety needs require it.
You can update profile information and publisher visibility choices from your account page.
10. Children
Rentaly is not directed at children who cannot independently enter rental arrangements. Do not create an account for a child or submit a child’s information without lawful authority.
11. Changes and contact
We may update this Policy as the service or legal requirements change. The latest version and effective date will remain available here.
Privacy questions or requests may be sent to privacy@rentaly.co.za. You may also consult the Information Regulator South Africa.
